Brock Lesnar made his unexpected return to WWE last weekend at the SummerSlam event, attacking John Cena after being absent from the company for over a year due to his indirect involvement in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer weekly newsletter, WWE kept Brock Lesnar as one of the highest-paid wrestlers in the company throughout his entire absence, despite the former UFC Champion being off television.

Meltzer notes that Lesnar was never suspended and remained under a full-time contract, receiving his full salary during this period. If what he did had broken the relationship, they would have fired him. That’s the reality, said the journalist.

WWE’s decision to maintain his lucrative contract would indicate the company’s confidence that the situation would be resolved favorably. In fact, Lesnar received legal clearance approximately one month before his return, although the information was kept secret to prepare for his surprise appearance.

Now that Brock Lesnar is back, WWE fans are eager to see what The Beast’s next move will be. Tonight on Friday Night SmackDown, John Cena is set to appear, reportedly to verbally respond to Lesnar and possibly announce his intention to face the former Universal Champion, with Clash in Paris as a potential setting.
