John Cena is nearing the end of his retirement tour, with his next stop set for Clash in Paris, where he will face Logan Paul. The former world champion has begun reflecting on his career, and in an interview at the Fan Expo Boston, he revealed which match was the most challenging of all. Far from mentioning a title bout or an extreme physical contest, the legendary wrestler chose the Firefly Funhouse Match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36.

It was the match I had in the Firefly Funhouse,” Cena explained to Justin Barrasso. “And while it was against Bray Wyatt, it was really, more or less, a match against myself. I’d say that was my greatest challenge.”

That encounter, filmed in a cinematic style due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, took place with no audience at the WWE Performance Center. On the second night of the event, Wyatt defeated Cena in a match filled with references, symbolism, and surreal moments that explored Cena’s career and personality.

WrestleMania 36 was also the first edition of the event to be split into two nights, marking a milestone in WWE history. The Firefly Funhouse Match became one of the most talked-about and polarizing segments of the show, earning praise for its creativity and criticism for its unconventional nature.

For Cena, that match with Bray Wyatt was not only a physical contest but also a mirror that forced him to confront his fears, mistakes, and the image he projects in the wrestling world. A battle that, according to him, he will never forget.
