At this year's Money in The Bank event, R-Truth made his return to  WWE one week after being fired. The former NWA champion made an appearance in the main event of the show to cost John Cena the victory, who had been his last rival.

This aggressive and serious side of the wrestler was solidified in the episode of Monday Night Raw following the event. That night, the wrestler with the most championships in WWE history appeared among the audience to announce his change of character and, subsequently, rebranded himself as Ron Killings, his real name. When he finished speaking, Killings proceeded to take out scissors and cut his characteristic braids, thus certifying his new personality.

However, this new character of the wrestler lasted just over a month. In the last episode of SmackDown, the newly turned hero John Cena encountered Truth backstage, who was very happy to see him back in his usual face persona. "You're back!", exclaimed an excited R-Truth. "And if you're back, then so am I!", he added before embracing Cena.

In an interview with The Rap on Wrestling, Truth admitted that his comedic and jovial character has had the most impact on the fans, so returning to that path was the right way. "You've already seen serious Truth. What more do you want from me? Yes, we've had serious Truth. Ron 'The Truth' Killings. Also with Little Jimmy. We've already had serious Truth."

After being asked if he would have any serious run leading to the World Championship, the 53-time 24/7 Champion replied that his greatest achievement was having all the fans clamor for his return and show their support and affection during that week.

Furthermore, Killings defined himself as the Champion of the People, because despite his 53 years and the various character changes, people stuck with that version of the wrestler that made them feel something very special. "I've had so many character changes, so many layers removed, but those hundred million people fell in love and supported that guy who made them feel what they wanted to feel. Why reinvent the wheel?", Truth concluded.

Currently, R-Truth is on the SmackDown brand. In the latest we saw of him, he was involved in the rivalry between Aleister Black and Damian Priest in a supporting role. However, it seems that with his comedic side, he will stay out of the feud.
