John Cena is becoming a Hollywood star, especially after his portrayal of The Peacemaker character. However, his beginnings in the film industry were not very successful. During his appearance at the Boston Fan Expo, Cena spoke candidly about his first major opportunity in film as the lead in the movie The Marine, released in 2006. The 17-time world champion revealed that, at that time, his focus was far from Hollywood.

"I didn't take it seriously. The movie came out in 2006, and I think it was filmed in 2005. I wanted to be a world champion. The movie was fun, but I wanted to be somewhere else," Cena explained. "If you don't give it your all, you get distracted by too many things. My heart wasn't in it."

Over the years, the wrestler turned actor claims to have changed his mindset: "Now, when I'm on set, I'm there as if it were a WWE arena, with passion for my work. You have to be involved, and that was my biggest lesson."

Following that experience, John Cena reached the pinnacle of wrestling with 17 world title reigns, the most recent achieved at this year's WrestleMania by defeating Cody Rhodes. Subsequently, Rhodes regained the title at SummerSlam. Concurrently, Cena managed to establish himself on the big screen with an increasingly solid career. His role in the series Peacemaker has been one of the most acclaimed, and its second season will premiere on August 21.

The Marine, an unexpected legacy

Although John Cena did not give it the importance it deserved at its release, The Marine grossed $32 million at the box office and spawned several sequels, with the latest being The Marine 6: Close Quarters in 2018. Over time, the franchise became an interesting piece of the connection between WWE and Hollywood. In addition to John Cena, other stars appeared in the series: Ted DiBiase Jr, The Miz, Summer Rae, Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Naomi, Shawn Michaels, and Becky Lynch.

Based on critic rankings, here is a numbered list of The Marine movies ordered from best to worst:
