The arrival of All Elite Wrestling to the professional wrestling scene represented a breath of fresh air in a business dominated by WWE and its particular style, more focused on storytelling than on the spectacle in its matches. In contrast, AEW brought the essence of the independent scene to television, with frenetic matches, full of countless moves as spectacular as they are dangerous.
This style has been criticized by fans and industry personalities, who believe that current talent is taking too many risks, which could result in very short careers. This was explained by MVP in the most recent episode of Backstage Truths: Road Survival & the Art of Audience Reaction, where he offered advice to younger talents.
"I tell young guys all the time... If you're wrestling in a veterans' hall (VFW) in front of 75 people, don't hurt yourself. Don't do your spinning reverse scorpion death plant through a table to the floor in front of 75 people for your $25. If you're going to do that, there's a time and a place. I'm not saying never do it, but there's a time and a place for that. Do it at, you know, a big show, in a big venue," MVP said.
The member of The Hurt Syndicate continued to explain that wrestlers should adapt their moveset to the audience they are performing for, and not obsess over creating their "WrestleMania moment" in any venue. "Understand that... if people come to buy tacos, don't serve them spaghetti. Roger that, roger that. What is this? Spaghetti with sauce? I came for tacos," he said.
