During the last few hours, the name of Chris Jericho has been at the center of media attention in the wrestling world. The inaugural AEW champion was on everyone's lips after liking a curious Instagram post. The post played with the possibility that Jericho might be willing to return to WWE once his contract with Tony Khan's company ends.
However, his recent activity on social media is particularly relevant when considering that, in the past, he himself had admitted that he would be open to considering a return to WWE, as he has never wanted to completely close the door on that possibility. Additionally, the Canadian has been absent from AEW and ROH programming since last April, so this absence could be indicative of a cooling off in the relationship between him and the company.
In his appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about this issue. First of all, the journalist confirmed that Jericho's contract with AEW expires at the end of 2025, and he did not mention anything about a possible renewal negotiation between both parties.
Despite the secrecy surrounding this whole issue, Meltzer confirmed that there have already been many discussions within WWE about this matter. "His contract ends at the end of the year, or towards the end of the year, and there have certainly been many, many conversations about WWE. I know that, from WWE's point of view, there has been a lot of talk about Jericho. People speculating about the Royal Rumble. No one has said anything officially, nor will they...", the journalist revealed.
Due to his relationship with AEW not being at its highest point, numerous fans and personalities in the industry firmly believe in Chris Jericho's return to TKO's company. Regarding this, Meltzer confirmed: "It's an important story to follow towards the end of the year. But yes, I have heard many, many conversations in the last week from different people about Jericho's situation and the belief that he will inevitably end up in WWE."
After six years in AEW, Chris Jericho's return to World Wrestling Entertainment would be a real bombshell. However, it seems that in his role as a wrestler, he has little to offer due to his age. Nevertheless, Jericho's experience in the business could be used to train and advise the future new stars.
