At the beginning of the month, WWE and ESPN announced a multimillion-dollar agreement that will bring the company's PLEs owned by Endeavor to the popular sports platform. The agreement will come into effect starting in March 2026, which will require WWE fans to switch from Peacock to ESPN's new streaming service if they want to continue watching the company's events legally.
However, the relationship between WWE and ESPN will begin sooner than expected. Today, both companies have officially announced that WrestlePalooza will be exclusively broadcast on ESPN on September 20th. This move has surprised many and has been covered by the specialized media outlet Fightful in a recent report.
"The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Peacock had to give its 'green light' for this to happen. An agreement was reached between WWE and Peacock, which was presented to ESPN, owned by Disney. A source within WWE told Fightful Select that the company expects to continue its relationship with NBCU/Peacock, and that for now, NXT's PLE events will continue to be broadcast on Peacock," wrote Fightful.
"THR also indicated that, according to WWE, holding multi-night PLE events helped meet the deadlines stipulated in the agreement with Peacock, and that there will be more content from the main roster coming to Peacock that has not yet been announced," the outlet wrote.
"Last week, sources within WWE said that it was expected that the WWE Library would migrate to YouTube, but with this new agreement, those same sources believe there is a good chance it will remain on Peacock for a while. We are looking for more details on this. People within WWE commented that part of the company's focus is to have content available on as many platforms as possible to reach fans of each one."
"It is important to note that ESPN has emphasized that many 'traditional' cable services may include ESPN's DTC (Direct to Consumer) service as part of their subscription. However, there will be several services left out of this, and this strategy is being used to boost Hulu and traditional cable services."
"Some have pointed out that F1rst Wrestling owns the rights to the name WrestlePalooza. However, a source close to the company reported that last week an internal statement was sent saying: 'Starting Monday (11/8), we completely stop everything related to WRESTLEPALOOZA', indicating that there have been movements regarding this," concluded Fightful's report.
