This weekend will take place a new edition of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, which this year will be held at the 02 in London, England. And, once again, the PPV of All Elite Wrestling will share the spotlight with a WWE event, NXT Heatwave, as part of its current counterprogramming strategy, which has been heavily criticized by a sector of the fans.
Tony Khan has been asked about this on multiple occasions. However, unlike his past statements, the AEW president has chosen not to engage in controversies and focus exclusively on his product. This is how Khan responded when asked about the topic during the press conference prior to Forbidden Door.
"We've had a great 2025 in AEW and I think, largely, that's because everyone in AEW is really focused on making AEW a tremendous promotion and continuing with this excellent year we are having," said Khan without mentioning WWE at any point.
Khan also highlighted the new television deal with Warner Bros. Discovery for the broadcast of the company's weekly shows (AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision) on both television and HBO Max.
"All these things have come together to generate a lot of excitement within and outside of AEW, and throughout the company. I want to be able to continue that, and the most important thing for us is to talk about AEW and work very hard on AEW every week. That means not necessarily focusing on what all the wrestling promotions are doing, although I do like to watch wrestling and stay informed about what other promotions are doing," he said.
"We've been in the business since 2019 and, in all those years, there have been other wrestling promotions that have at times done very good things. In AEW's best moments, we've been super focused on what we are doing. We don't pretend to be the only wrestling company in the world, but we do try to be the best. I know we have the best wrestlers, and this year I think we are producing the best television shows and the best pay-per-view events. I know we have the best fans," he concluded.
