In the last few days, the name of Chris Jericho has been on the lips of all wrestling fans due to a more than possible departure from All Elite Wrestling. The issue began on August 17th, when it was revealed that the Canadian wrestler had "liked" an Instagram post in which there was speculation about his potential return to WWE once his current contract ends.
Since this was reported, numerous media outlets and journalists have tried to gather more information regarding this matter. Some key points include the fact that the former AEW Champion's contract with Khan's company ends in December of this year, and many within WWE are confident in his eventual comeback once it expires. According to reports, Jericho's return idea has been well received within the company.
Recently, in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has been able to delve deeper into some details about YSJ's return. He admitted that many people in both AEW and WWE circles firmly believe he will return at the Royal Rumble 2026, an event to be held in Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, Jericho's lack of participation in programming since April only increases the chances of his non-renewal with All Elite becoming a reality. This has led to some even speculating about a cooling off of the relationship between the company and the worker.
Meltzer also mentioned that one of the main attractions that convinced Jericho to join AEW was the reduced number of work dates, significantly fewer than those in WWE at that time. However, the recent restructuring of TKO's schedule has allowed wrestlers many more days off (especially due to the decrease in live events).
Despite many already believing in YSJ's arrival at the company, until there is a clear announcement from any of the parties involved, the situation could change drastically. We saw this, for example, with MJF's contract renewal in 2024, for instance.
Chris Jericho left WWE in 2019, and after a fairly successful stint with the Jacksonville-based company, he has experienced a noticeable decline in performance in recent years due, evidently, to his age.
