The physical condition of Will Ospreay is once again a topic of conversation. Although the British wrestler took part in AEW Forbidden Door, several people within the company did not view his decision favorably, as he is dealing with a neck injury that may require surgery.
According to a report from Fightful Select, both executives and some of his fellow wrestlers were hoping that Ospreay would choose not to compete and instead begin a period of recovery. The wrestler himself had acknowledged that working on Forbidden Door was important to him, but the risk was evident. One of the sources consulted explained:
There were people in AEW who were actually hoping that Will Ospreay wouldn't end up wrestling in Forbidden Door. With his neck injury, his surgeon had told him that he should address it, even though it wasn't getting worse.
Ospreay has not publicly confirmed whether he will undergo surgery, but he hinted that the option is on the table. After AEW All In, the wrestler announced that he would need time off, drastically altering the company's original plans for the following months.
Despite the uncertainty, Fightful assures that Ospreay was medically cleared to compete in his match at Forbidden Door. The question now is how long he will be away from the ring and how this will affect his role in AEW in the short term.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door takes place this Sunday, where Will Ospreay will compete in a Lights Out Cage Match, teaming up with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, and Kota Ibushi to face Death Riders, The Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd. Solowrestling will provide live coverage of the event.
