Cody Rhodes has been absent from WWE programming for several weeks. The world champion was attacked by Drew McIntyre on an episode of SmackDown and has since stayed away from television. With the premium event Clash in Paris just around the corner, the mystery surrounding his condition has started to clear up and all signs point to The American Nightmare not making it in time.
According to a report this afternoon from Dailymail UK, Rhodes is currently in Sydney, Australia, filming the new Street Fighter movie where he will portray the character of Guile. The wrestler was spotted near the set wearing his classic American Nightmare hoodie and, underneath, part of the costume he will use in his cinematic role. Although filming was scheduled to start in September, everything indicates that production has been moved up.
Close sources indicate that his absence from WWE won't be too long, but the date of Clash in Paris, August 31, is coming up too soon. There is currently no guarantee that he will be able to join in time for the event in France.
Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre keeps the rivalry alive from television. The Scotsman has not stopped calling out Rhodes in his appearances, reminding him of the beating he received on SmackDown and making it clear that he expects a direct confrontation sooner rather than later. Last week he was attacked by Randy Orton, and since then there have been rumors of a match between them on August 31.
Since the Wrestlepalooza event was confirmed, there have been rumors that the show would feature two key matches, one of them being the WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.
