Roman Reigns and Stephanie McMahon recently reminisced about one of the most remembered -and painful- segments of the past decade in WWE. During a conversation on the podcast What's Your Story?, they both recalled the night when Stephanie's famous slaps went beyond what was expected. That segment, which took place in 2015 on Monday Night Raw, where Stephanie slapped Roman several times in front of the audience, became one of the most intense moments of their on-screen rivalry.
Stephanie pointed out that Reigns used to provoke her with his words in the ring. "You used to talk a lot of crap to me in the ring," she commented with laughter. The Samoan replied that he did it because otherwise, she would slap him over and over again: "Just because I knew that if I didn't, you would give me 15 slaps in a row."
In the midst of the conversation, Reigns surprised by revealing that one of those slaps resulted in a real injury. "You burst my eardrum. You shattered it. The doctor told me, 'Oh, yeah, it's completely broken,'" confessed the former WWE Universal Champion, recalling what happened on the December 14, 2015 edition of Monday Night Raw.
Far from being uncomfortable, Stephanie reacted with humor and a warning: "Well, don't mess with me." Reigns agreed and added, "If you're going to hit someone, hit them hard. Your first slaps were good."
The former WWE President then admitted that she got carried away because Reigns wasn't reacting as she expected: "It's true, I got carried away because you weren't selling it. So I thought, 'I'll make you really sell the situation'."
That moment was part of the intense rivalry between Roman Reigns and Triple H, which dominated WWE programming in late 2015 and early 2016. Stephanie's slaps were one of the most remembered elements of the feud against The Authority, a conflict that would eventually culminate months later in the main event of WrestleMania 32, where Reigns defeated Triple H to become the WWE World Champion.
