Kurt Angle will go down in wrestling history as one of the greatest talents to ever step foot in a professional wrestling ring. The legend can boast of being one of the most beloved and respected wrestlers in the business, dedicating over two decades to it, during which he succeeded in companies like WWE and TNA Wrestling.
Two companies that were once competitors, but now work together after signing a historic collaboration agreement. An agreement that caught Angle by surprise, as he never imagined it could happen. The legend explained this in the most recent episode of Mic Check, the podcast hosted by Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy in WWE).
"Honestly, I was really excited, to be honest with you. I think I never thought, not in a million years - especially when we were competing against WWE, when Ken and I were in TNA - that WWE would ever partner with TNA. And the reason I love this is because I know that, at some point, WWE will buy the TNA video library, and WWE will then own all of Kurt Angle's material in TNA. WWE fans will be able to have access to that," Angle said.
"You know, I'm going to tell you something: I had a much better career in TNA than in WWE. I was there much longer too. So most of my career was in TNA. Many WWE fans didn't see me. So now I have the opportunity for fans to see me compete and perform in TNA. I just... I know it's going to happen at some point. I never thought it would happen, not in a million years, but you know, now that they have partnered and are both invested in each other, I think at some point they will buy the video library," he added.
Kurt Angle's record in TNA Wrestling speaks for itself. Six TNA World Championships, two World Tag Team Championships (one with Sting and one with AJ Styles), an X-Division Championship, and a King of the Mountain Championship, thus marking the most successful decade of a talent in the history of the Anthem Media company.
Angle had his retirement match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35, a decision heavily criticized by fans who expected a more fitting opponent for the WWE Hall of Famer. Once Angle hung up his boots, he transitioned to a producer role in the company until his release in 2020 as part of a wave of budget cuts. In recent years, the legend has undergone surgery several times to address various physical issues stemming from his extensive professional career.
