Oba Femi has become one of the most promising talents for the future in WWE. Since his debut in NXT, "The Ruler" has not stopped surprising both fans and company executives thanks to his presence, power, and great performances inside the ring, making him one of the best Powerhouse, not only in the developmental brand, but in all of WWE.
His character has been a hit with the audience, who show him respect with each appearance. A character, on the other hand, that has been shaped by Oba, drawing inspiration from his Nigerian roots and even from one of the most iconic characters of the 21st century: Thanos from Marvel Comics.
"Let's see what Oba Femi's character is. Oba Femi, whether a good guy or a bad guy, works as an obstacle. Even when the audience applauds me, in practice I remain a heel. Regarding the Nigerian aspect of the character, I think I don't have to go far to find inspiration: I had my father, I had a couple of friends who were very prominent Nigerian characters and who represented everything about Nigerian culture, how they spoke and things like that," he said in an interview with Fox 54 News.
However, the main inspiration overall for his character "The Ruler" was Thanos. "The biggest inspiration I had was, of course, Thanos from Infinity War, because he was a truly memorable character with many iconic lines," he stated.
Oba Femi will defend the NXT Championship against Ricky Saints at No Mercy, the exclusive PPV of the developmental brand that will take place on September 27 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Before that, Femi will have to team up with his rival to once again face DarkState. The match, a tag team bout, will take place tonight on the weekly NXT show.
