The name of AJ Lee has been making headlines in recent days, especially after CM Punk and WWE dropped some hints that would point to an imminent return of the former Divas champion to what was once her home. And indeed, what many fans have been asking for since the return of "The Best in the World" could soon become a reality.
With each new piece of information that emerges on the subject, it seems increasingly clear that AJ Lee will return to compete in a ring a decade after her last match. This was explained by the specialized media outlet Fightful in its most recent report, mentioning that the wrestler's return could take place on the next episode of SmackDown.
"Fightful Select reported this weekend that there have been several internal proposals for AJ Lee, who is ready to return to the ring after ten years. Sources within WWE strongly hinted that AJ would appear or be mentioned on SmackDown this week, which already seems practically a done deal," the media outlet wrote.
"Several staff members and talents commented on AJ Lee, saying they had not spoken to her or seen her since she left, but that she always had very cordial exchanges with them over the years. Many female wrestlers, in particular, who grew up watching AJ Lee, were very excited. A veteran who never had the opportunity to work with AJ said she was surprised that this is happening, as CM Punk used to dodge the subject when it was mentioned to him, but they felt that was more out of respect and support for what his wife wanted to do," Fightful wrote.
"We were told that this is not necessarily a one-time appearance, and WWE hopes to be able to do more things with her. But even if it's just this, they are happy to have her back," the report concluded.
In light of all this information, AJ Lee is expected to return to action at WWE WrestlePalooza, the show that the company will hold on September 20 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rumors point to a mixed tag team match that would pit CM Punk and AJ Lee against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
CM Punk himself would have given a key clue in the last episode of Raw, where he was slapped and humiliated by Becky Lynch, who took advantage of her status as a woman to avoid a violent response from "The Best in the World". He warned "The Man" that she would regret laying hands on him, a comment that thrilled the fans, who moments earlier were chanting AJ Lee's name.
Later, in a backstage segment, CM Punk announced to Adam Pearce that he will be present at this week's SmackDown show, which will take place in Chicago, the city where he resides with his wife. An ideal setting for his long-awaited reappearance.
