Matt Riddle is once again at the center of controversy. The wrestler was scheduled to face Simon Miller at the event Global Wrestling Kingdom: A New Kingdom Rises, held on August 31 in Barnsley, England. The show had a charitable purpose, raising funds for victims of domestic violence and homeless veterans. However, Riddle never traveled to the UK nor showed up at the event, despite having received an advance deposit.
According to Cultaholic, the promoter had secured Riddle's participation months ago through his representative. However, in recent weeks, the former WWE champion complained about the price of his flight and the fact that he had to stay at a hotel in Barnsley for two days. Shortly after, he stopped responding to the organization's emails. He was eventually replaced without prior notice.
Sources close to Cultaholic have revealed that Riddle was booked for the event through his manager months ago, but recently expressed concerns about his flight, which he considered cheap, and his displeasure at staying in a hotel in Barnsley for two days.
While fans in England were left without seeing him, Riddle appeared that same Sunday at Boca Raton Championship Wrestling in Florida. There, he defended the tag team championships alongside Stallion Rogers against Lakay and Lincoln, in a match that had not been previously announced. The event also featured the participation of other renowned stars, such as Moose, Ash By Elegance, and James Ellsworth.
This incident adds to other recent incidents. In January, PWInsider reported that Riddle canceled his appearance at Memphis Championship Wrestling on the same day of the show, after attending Nick Hogan's wedding the night before. Additionally, the wrestler was seen last Saturday in Cleveland, at the debut event of Real American Freestyle, where he reportedly showed interest in competing in the future.
Matt Riddle was released from WWE in September 2023 after several months of ups and downs and controversies outside the ring. The former tag team champion had been one of the company's bets, even sharing the spotlight with Randy Orton in the successful RK-Bro duo. However, his personal problems, multiple absences, and an incident at an airport ultimately led to his definitive departure. Since then, Riddle has remained involved in independent wrestling and other minor promotions in the United States.
Outside the ring, Riddle has opened an OnlyFans account, where he posts photos and personal content aimed at his most loyal followers. The project has become one of his main sources of income, as the wrestler leverages both his popularity and eccentric image to attract subscribers.
