The new era of WWE has been characterized by its international expansion. In recent years, the number of events outside the United States has increased exponentially, becoming a business strategy that has proven to be very profitable for the company.

The PLE and tours around Europe have shown that there is a great interest in the brand, and it is something that the company is exploiting very well. In addition, Australia and Saudi Arabia have also become two regions that WWE frequently visits in this new stage of international expansion, as well as Mexico thanks to the acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA.

However, WWE has no intention of stopping. The company has always had its eye on some markets that have traditionally been elusive. We are talking about India and China, two of the most populated countries in the world and, therefore, with tremendous potential to exploit. Now, it seems that the company will try once again, as revealed in a recent report by Fightful.

"Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select has learned that several influential people within WWE have pushed the idea of the company holding a major event in China in the coming years. Specifically, Hong Kong has been mentioned as a possible location, and the possibility of a PLE event has been internally discussed at WWE," the media wrote.

"WWE has only held eight events in China throughout its history, and all but two took place in Shanghai. Between 2016 and 2019, it became somewhat of a tradition to visit the country in September, but that largely stopped due to the COVID pandemic in 2020. The company has not held any events there since then," the report concluded.

The last WWE event held in China took place on September 21, 2019, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai. That live non-televised event featured several interesting matches, including Shinsuke Nakamura defeating Ali to retain the Intercontinental Championship and Kofi Kingston defeating Daniel Bryan to retain the WWE Championship in the main event of the night.
