Jim Ross, one of the most legendary commentators in wrestling history, has publicly shown his support for AJ Lee amid the anticipation for her return to the ring. On the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer didn't hesitate to praise the former WWE champion. "I'm looking forward to seeing her succeed. She has always been a tremendous talent and a great ambassador for professional wrestling."

Ross emphasized the impact AJ had on the women's division during her first stint in WWE, where her charisma and in-ring style helped pave the way for the current generation. "AJ brought something different to the table. She wasn't just another face in the crowd: she had spark, a real connection with the audience," he commented.

The veteran announcer also recalled the obstacles AJ faced throughout her career, from injuries to the challenge of standing out in a male-dominated industry. "She's tough as nails. Coming back after everything she's been through shows her dedication and love for wrestling. I have no doubt she will make a big impact again," he added.

Professional wrestling needs people like AJ Lee, passionate, talented, and unafraid to be themselves. I'm excited to see what she will do next.

Although their paths in WWE barely crossed, AJ Lee and Jim Ross did coincide at some specific moments. When AJ made her main roster debut in 2011, Ross was no longer a regular commentator, although he still made special appearances on Raw and other shows. This allowed them to occasionally meet backstage, without sharing an extended period, but leaving open the possibility for JR to firsthand witness AJ's potential in her early days with the company.

WWE has not officially confirmed AJ Lee's return to action yet, but the WWE Shop account revealed the other day that it will indeed happen, tentatively before Wrestlepalooza. It is speculated that CM Punk will announce the news tonight, on Friday Night SmackDown.
