WWE WrestlePalooza, scheduled for September 20 and with its inaugural broadcast on the new ESPN streaming platform, is generating huge anticipation. However, a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed that the original plan for the WWE Championship match is at a standstill.
The planned match was to feature champion Cody Rhodes against Drew McIntyre, but Dave Meltzer has indicated that everything is "up in the air." The reasons are twofold: Rhodes' absence, busy with filming the movie Street Fighter, and the increasingly intense rivalry that McIntyre has with Randy Orton on SmackDown. All of this opens the door for the title match to change and possibly end up being McIntyre versus Orton.
The originally scheduled match was Cody Rhodes against Drew McIntyre for the title, but at the last minute it is said to be in doubt and could be McIntyre vs Randy Orton.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the main championship, the WrestlePalooza card already has some confirmed matches. A new women's world champion will be crowned with the showdown between Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer. Additionally, the newly reunited Usos (Jimmy and Jey) are reportedly set to face Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
Furthermore, the highly anticipated match between John Cena and the recently returned Brock Lesnar remains on the table for the big September event. This series of matches, along with the possible return of AJ Lee to action, lead WWE to believe that Cody Rhodes' presence is not mandatory to generate big numbers.
