Athena will go down in history as one of the great figures of Ring of Honor of all time. "The Fallen Goddess" continues to expand her historic reign as the company's World Champion, which this week has surpassed 1,000 days. A figure that makes this reign the longest in the history of ROH, including all titles of the company, both male and female.

Athena conquered the championship 1,002 days ago after defeating Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle 2022. That day, December 10, marked the beginning of a journey that has not stopped adding achievements, including 31 title defenses in companies like AEW, STARDOM, Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, Prestige Wrestling, and Ring of Honor.

Athena shatters previous records

With her current reign (the first, in fact, in Ring of Honor), Athena has far surpassed the previous record, held by Samoa Joe with a reign of 645 days with the ROH World Championship. In third place is Nigel McGuinness, a true reference for the company, who set a reign of 545 days with the top gold around his waist. In fourth place is another key figure for the promotion, Bryan Danielson, who had a reign of 462 days.

A brief history of the young ROH Women's World Championship

The current ROH Women's World Championship was created on January 12, 2020, although it would not officially debut until the August 11, 2021 episode of Women's Division Wednesday, a web series launched by the company that same year as part of the relaunch and strengthening of its women's division.

The current title was introduced to replace the former Women of Honor World Championship, which was deactivated in January 2020. The first champion of the new ROH Women's World Championship was Rok-C (Roxanne Perez in WWE), who won a tournament to crown the inaugural champion on September 12, 2021 at the Death Before Dishonor XVIII event.
