Toni Storm is one of the main stars of All Elite Wrestling, and she has had to work hard to achieve it. Before joining the company, she worked for WWE, where she didn't quite find her place. Recently, she confessed that there she missed more creative instructions. The current AEW Women's Champion explained that, far from feeling limited, she experienced the opposite: too much freedom without a clear direction for her character.
In an interview with MVP and Dwayne Swayze on the podcast Marking Out, Storm talked about the importance of creative guidance in wrestling. She explained that, although they gave her technical aspects for television, she received little guidance regarding her character.
In WWE, I don't think they told me enough what I had to do. Actually, they didn't tell me anything. Obviously, they gave you certain instructions on how to move on camera and those things, but when it came to the character... it was never like, 'Do this, today you're a cat and your name is Tori Smith'. They let me do it my way. It was like I had total freedom, but I felt very lost.
The New Zealander also emphasized that she was willing to try any idea the company had proposed to her. "I would have done anything, really. That's the weird thing. If they had given me something crazy and outrageous, I would have done it a hundred percent," she declared.
She even recalled the controversial pie-throwing angle she participated in at WWE, clarifying that she holds no resentment. ""In reality, it was the most exciting thing I ever did there, if you think about it," she stated. "The rest were just random matches."
