Vince Russo: "AJ Lee's return was a creative disaster"

Almost a week after her long-awaited return, AJ Lee's comeback to WWE continues to be a hot topic. In this case, Vince Russo has shared his personal opinion about the segment from the last episode of SmackDown, where Lee made an appearance at the end of the show to defend her husband CM Punk from Becky Lynch's provocations.

Russo commented on how he felt about the way her return was presented on the Behind the Turnbuckle Studios podcast, specifically on the weekly podcast where he and Jonathan Coachman participate. In this case, Russo argued that he hated the way WWE planned this segment. "Also, Coach, I don't want to sound too critical, but the way they organized this whole segment was completely wrong. And, man, they just have no idea how to do the most basic things," he commented.

The former WWE creative head's criticism was based on two pillars. First, he defended that he detested Becky Lynch talking about how she had defeated all the other female wrestlers in the division. "She buried all the other wrestlers. 'I'm not afraid of Bayley, or...'. Why would you do that? What's the point of burying Bayley and Rhea? You don't do that, Coach. There's no reason to do it," he argued.

However, it didn't stop there, as he explained that if Lynch was such a dominant wrestler, he didn't understand how a wrestler of AJ Lee's age and physique could impress her so much: "Then she says she's not afraid of Bayley or Rhea Ripley. And then a 38-year-old woman who hasn't wrestled in 10 years, who looks like she weighs 42 kilos, enters with her bouncy walk into the ring. And The Man's expression is as if King Kong, Godzilla, the Shark, and Bigfoot were all entering at the same time. That's what I mean about Triple H's creative team. It blows my mind how they have no idea how to do this realistically"

Russo dared to propose a new way to plan a better return for the wrestler: "That's not the way she should have reacted. She should have sold it like she was relishing the opportunity. When she was telling CM Punk: 'Who are you going to bring? Who are you going to bring?', she should have been provoking him to choose AJ Lee. That was the right way to handle it."

Regardless of Vince Russo's opinion, the reality is that AJ Lee's return and its execution have pleased the fans, who, although they could already anticipate the wrestler's rehiring, were satisfied nonetheless. Lee will join CM Punk to face the Champions couple on Monday Night Raw, Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at the WrestlePalooza event.
