All Elite Wrestling presented its Continental Classic tournament in 2023. The competition, similar to NJPW's G1, pits some of the best talents of the company against each other over several weeks. Divided into various groups, the wrestlers accumulate points to advance to the final rounds with the Continental Championship (now Unified Championship) at stake from the beginning of the tournament.

The tournament was very well received by fans. So much so, that it has already become an annual event that takes place in the last months of the year. With the 2025 edition about to be announced, Tony Khan has been asked about the possibility of creating a female version of the tournament. Something that the AEW president does not rule out, as long as their roster is healthy.

"We have the Women's World Championship and the TBS Championship. I think the Continental would be something very interesting. We had some injuries in the women's division earlier this year, during the All In event. I think it would be great if we manage to have the division in good shape, with all our top female wrestlers ready to compete; that could really be something very good. It's a very intense tournament, with matches every week. I am very open to the idea, especially if we manage to have all the top female wrestlers healthy to participate," Khan said in an interview for Q93.

Kazuchika Okada was the big winner of last year's Continental Classic edition. "The Rainmaker" participated in the tournament as the Continental Champion, reaching the final to defeat Will Ospreay and thus retain his title. A championship that still remains in his possession, now renamed as the Unified Championship after the Japanese defeated Kenny Omega to take away the International Title in a match where both titles were on the line.

Meanwhile, fans hope that AEW continues to push its women's division, especially considering the quality that this roster exudes. Women like Mercedes Martinez, Toni Storm, Willow Nightingale, Mina Shirakawa, Kris Statlander, Thekla, or Megan Bayne have abundantly demonstrated their quality, so a tournament of this nature would allow them to enjoy more time on screen and, therefore, continue to give visibility to a traditionally underutilized roster.
