During the WWE Raw prior to Wrestlepalooza, it was confirmed that Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre will put an end to their rivalry, with the Undisputed Championship on the line. This match will mark Cody's first title defense since winning the championship at SummerSlam by defeating John Cena.

The rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre dates back to last year, where they faced each other on several occasions. However, the tension escalated drastically a month ago, in the main event of SmackDown, when Drew took Cody's Undisputed Championship and brutally attacked him with it. The assault culminated with McIntyre finishing him off with the announcers' table.

After a month of absence due to Drew's brutal attack, Cody Rhodes made a surprising return on the last SmackDown. Rhodes appeared after the main event, where Drew had just defeated Randy Orton with a couple of tricks. Seeking revenge, Cody launched himself at him and, wasting no time, challenged him to a match at Wrestlepalooza.

Although Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre have faced each other in the past, even in a tag team match where Cody teamed up with John Cena against Drew and Logan Paul, this will be the first time they face off for the Undisputed Championship. The match will be even more significant, as it will mark Cody's first defense in his second reign as champion.
