WWE has held a new premium event tonight, the first in the ESPN era. Wrestlepalooza presented a card full of interesting matches, highlighting the opener, the match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar, the mixed tag team match between AJ Lee and CM Punk against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, and the main event, a match for the WWE Undisputed Championship between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.
The match was very even, with no clear dominator. Rhodes kept the spectators on edge, pushing his physique to the limit, with the referee checking on him several times. McIntyre tried to secure the victory through foul play, removing a corner protection that he ended up being hit by accidentally. Cody Rhodes executed the Cross Rhodes and went for the pin, but the victory did not come. McIntyre also came close after hitting the Claymore Kick.
McIntyre tried to replicate what happened on SmackDown, trying to knock out Cody on the commentary table with the Claymore. However, Rhodes managed to evade this time, and the Scotsman injured his leg. The action returned to the ring, where McIntyre attempted to deliver the Claymore after executing the Glasgow Kiss, but his leg gave out. Rhodes seized the moment to react, execute the Cross Rhodes, and secure the victory.
The match came after several weeks of rivalry, with Cody Rhodes mostly absent due to his involvement in the filming of the new Street Fighter movie, and Drew McIntyre engaging in social media banter while feuding with Randy Orton, even having an individual match on SmackDown.
