WWE closed WrestlePalooza with Cody Rhodes defeating Drew McIntyre to retain the WWE Undisputed Championship, but the big story came afterwards, in the post-show, when The American Nightmare proclaimed that he was the only man capable of being the "quarterback" of the company.
The statement did not go unanswered: Seth Rollins appeared with his championship in hand and stood face to face with Rhodes. Neither spoke a word, but the silence was broken with a powerful image: both raising their titles in front of the cameras, causing the audience to cheer and immediate speculation to erupt on social media.
The face-off made it clear that WWE was sowing the seed for a historic clash. Rumors pointed to Crown Jewel as the setting, and confirmation was not long in coming. On the post-event panel, Triple H confirmed that Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins will face off next month in a champion vs. champion match.
With this announcement, WWE aims to repeat the formula from last year at Crown Jewel, where Cody defeated Gunther in a clash between champions. On that occasion, the company put the Crown Jewel Championship on the line. Cody will seek to retain the title in Perth, Australia.
