WWE has let the contracts of some of its talents expire in recent months, including Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Sarah Logan (Valhalla), and Carlito. Of all of them, only the Puerto Rican expected this to happen. That's why he regrets not having been smarter in the negotiations that led him back to the company under Triple H's leadership. This is what the wrestler explained in a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio.
"I knew that when I signed with Hunter in charge, coming back (to WWE), my first goal was not to lose my head. With whatever they gave me, I was going to move forward. My contract expired and, honestly, I think I screwed myself because I signed a shorter contract than usual. I think they would have just let me finish that contract and then fired me, but by signing for less time, in a way, I took a year away from myself. That's how it is, man," Carlito said.
With his departure from WWE, Carlito ended a three-year period in the company. A period that began with the Puerto Rican aligning himself with the Latino World Order, the faction led by Rey Mysterio. However, it wasn't until his heel turn and his move to The Judgment Day that he began to gain more relevance, becoming the faction's comedic relief. The news of his departure upset some WWE fans. However, unlike what happened with R-Truth, the company did not change its mind about his departure.
Since then, Carlito has worked for a multitude of independent circuit promotions as a free agent, including World Wrestling Council, where he won the WWC Puerto Rico Championship in his first post-WWE match. His last match took place last weekend at the GNPW Legends Never Die Super Show 2025 event, where he competed in a triple threat match for the promotion's male championship.
