Mayu Iwatani and IYO SKY will once again share the ring seven years after their last match. And they will do so in a one-on-one match at GRAND DESTINY, the upcoming PPV of MARIGOLD that will take place on October 26 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. It was SKY herself who shared the news through a video posted on the Japanese promotion's social media.

"MARIGOLD fans, it's been a long time since we've seen each other. I am WWE Superstar IYO SKY. And why am I here? There is only one reason: Mayu Iwatani! In these last years, while we didn't cross paths, we both have traveled wonderful paths. Let's speak from the heart and tell our story inside the ring. On October 26, at the Marigold show at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, Mayu Iwatani vs. IYO SKY is official! Hey Mayu, let's surprise the world with the incredible match we are going to have. See you soon!" said IYO SKY.

IYO SKY and Mayu Iwatani

IYO SKY and Iwatani have a long history dating back to their time in STARDOM. Both women shared the ring on more than a hundred occasions between 2013 and 2018. During that period, they only faced each other seven times in individual matches, two of them for the promotion's World Championship.

Currently, IYO SKY is one of the top stars on WWE's Raw brand, where she has become a fan favorite. On the other hand, Iwatani left STARDOM at the end of April to sign with MARIGOLD, where she quickly became one of the company's standout performers. Iwatani captured the Superfly Championship in her fourth match after defeating Victoria Yuzuki at the SHINE FOREVER event.

SKY's appearance in MARIGOLD is part of the alliance that Rossy Ogawa's promotion has with WWE. In fact, this will be the second time that "The Genius of Sky" participates in a show for the new Japanese company. Her first appearance took place on July 13, 2024, at SUMMER DESTINY, also held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, where she defeated Utami Hayashishita in a one-on-one match.

WWE in Japan

The MARIGOLD show will take place shortly after the WWE tour in Japan in October. Under the name SuperShow Japan, the company will hold two live non-televised events at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, featuring Japanese talents from the company such as Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, Kairi Sane, and IYO SKY herself, as well as other superstars like Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, and AJ Styles, among many others.
