John Cena and AJ Styles will face each other one last time before they both retire. The seventeen-time world champion will hang up his boots next December, while "The Phenomenal One" is planning to do so at some point next year. This was revealed in a recent interview with ABEMA to promote WWE's upcoming tour in Japan.
"Honestly, I thought maybe I wouldn't be here in WWE anymore, so having the opportunity to come back is truly amazing. This will probably be my last time wrestling in Japan. I am very excited to return," said AJ Styles. "That means I will hang up my boots. I won't wrestle anymore. I will retire soon, and I don't think we will come back to Japan before that happens. I think this will probably be my last time in Japan as a wrestler."
A week before WWE's tour in Japan, the talent will travel to Australia for a new edition of Crown Jewel, where Styles will face Cena in one of the most anticipated matches by fans, who helped make it possible through their insistence. In fact, Styles himself did not expect this match to happen.
"I am definitely very happy for the opportunity to fight John Cena on his retirement tour. I didn't think this was going to happen. The truth is that it came out of nowhere, but I accept it. I desire it. John and I are going to have one last match, and it's going to be incredible," said "The Phenomenal One".
John Cena and AJ Styles have shared the ring on multiple occasions, delivering some matches for the history books, such as their showdown at Royal Rumble 2017, where "The Greatest of All Time" tied Ric Flair's record of sixteen world championships. That night, Cena defeated "The Phenomenal One" in one of the most highly rated matches in modern WWE history.
This time there won't be a title on the line, but the farewell of two of the most important wrestlers of the 21st century, who will face each other one-on-one for the last time before hanging up their boots. The match will take place on October 11 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, marking Cena's final appearance outside the United States before his retirement.
