Several superstars have left WWE in recent times after their contracts expired without reaching a new agreement with the company. This is the case of Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Valhalla (Sarah Logan) or, more recently, Jazmyn Nyx. Names that could soon be joined by Santos Escobar. Or, at least, that's the rumor circulating on the Internet after the Mexican wrestler shared a cryptic message on his X account.

In it, we see a suited Escobar in what appears to be a building under construction. The message includes nothing more than the hourglass emoji. A symbol that many often use to imply that their time is running out in the company.

Of course, the responses were not long in coming, with many assuming that Santos would be about to be released by the company, and that he would only be waiting for his contract to come to an end. Many also hope to see him in All Elite Wrestling alongside Andrade, who returned to Tony Khan's company last night after his strange departure from WWE.

The message comes at a particularly unusual time. Escobar has been absent from WWE's television programming in recent months, with his most recent match taking place on the tour the company carried out in Mexico at the end of July. Since then, he has not reappeared, not even accompanying Los Garza.

Santos Escobar in WWE

Santos Escobar signed with WWE in 2019 a developmental contract to join the NXT brand. The Mexican began his time in the company using the name El Hijo del Fantasma (the same one he had used for most of his career). However, he soon left it behind, along with his mask, heel turn included, to be known as Santos Escobar, while conquering the Interim Cruiserweight Championship in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Escobar received a great push in the developmental territory, where he formed one of the most respected factions of that time, Legado del Fantasma. The stable (where Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, and Elektra Lopez were also present) ended up dissolving once Escobar was promoted to the main roster. After an unsuccessful stint with LWO, Santos decided to reform his old team, this time with new members, Los Garza, whom he led to conquer the AAA Tag Team Championships.

Since then, Angel and Berto have appeared on a few occasions on the company's television programming, all without Santos, which had already sparked some rumors. Meanwhile, Escobar's cryptic message leads us to wonder when his contract with WWE ends and if his absence on television is due, as has happened in many other cases, to the company not renewing its agreement with the wrestler.
