Alberto Del Rio has broken his silence following speculations about a possible return to WWE. Since his departure from AAA, fans have chanted his name at joint WWE and AAA events, something that Del Rio himself wanted to comment on in a recent interview with Eduardo Bates.
The former world champion has explained that nobody can control the audience and that fans have the right to cheer or boo whoever they want. Additionally, he reflected on how social media and the media amplify opinions, whether out of sincerity or for seeking attention.
That's something that nobody can decide for the fans. Fans love or hate whoever they want. Social media, the Internet, television... just spread it. Some do it with honesty, others just seek likes, views, or a bit of relevance for a week. We are the protagonists, the ones who step into the ring to give it our all.
Del Rio took the opportunity to make it clear that he has great respect for El Hijo del Vikingo, whom he considers an exceptional talent and one of the biggest promises in the business. However, he pointed out that the discontent shown by the audience has nothing to do with him, but with the fans' own expectations.
"I have nothing but respect for El Hijo del Vikingo. He is a great wrestler, a great prospect for our business, someone who will go far. But the fans were the ones who felt disappointed or betrayed. I just go out to do my job. As Maximus says in Gladiator: 'I have the fortune to look my enemy in the eye and decide my fate'. The rest, you, the fans, decide."
There has been a lot of talk about Alberto's return to Lucha Libre AAA and even to WWE, especially after Mexican fans showed interest in various shows. So far, no one has been able to confirm that the American company has contacted him to join their roster.
