John Cena is facing the last months of his retirement tour, and although nostalgia is in the air, not everyone is happy with how WWE has handled his farewell. Among the critical voices is actor and MLW talent, Paul Walter Hauser, who didn't hold back when expressing his opinion on the direction the former world champion's tour has taken.
In a conversation with TMZ Sports, Hauser directly pointed the finger at TKO (WWE's parent company) for mishandling the tour. "I think they are ruining it," he said. "It would have been great if Cena's farewell tour included a mix of old rivals who have been with him for two decades and new stars who could benefit from facing him. I would have loved to see him fight against The Miz, Jericho, Sheamus, Triple H, or Brock Lesnar... but what they did doesn't make sense. What was the point of all that?".
The actor also left open the possibility that the story may still have an unexpected twist. "Maybe there's some kind of reward we don't know about yet. Perhaps John will show up at WrestleMania next year and extend the tour. They have to prolong it, man," he commented with a laugh, although he insisted that the way the tour has unfolded so far "has been a waste".
Hauser especially lamented the decision to have Cena lose to Brock Lesnar in his most recent match: "If his last big match was against Brock, he had to beat him. I respect him, but I wish the ending had been different. Bringing him to the ring with crying kids was weird. It was supposed to be epic, not depressing".
John Cena's last match is scheduled for December 13th in Washington D.C., in what promises to be a night full of emotion and symbolism. Although fans have not been entirely satisfied with the journey so far, WWE aims to close the chapter with a tribute worthy of the man who, for over 20 years, was the face of a whole generation of modern wrestling.
Paul Walter Hauser has made occasional appearances in WWE, mainly as a guest celebrity: his cameo on SmackDown (June 2023) stood out in a comedic segment during the rivalry between Pretty Deadly and The Brawling Brutes, as well as nods and mentions on NXT in early 2023 while promoting projects and showing himself as a declared fan of the brand. Although he has not been a regular wrestler in the company, his connection to the business has been strengthened through his collaborations in MLW and his role as a guest personality, combining his actor side with sporadic appearances in the WWE environment.
