In recent years, many of the criticisms that fans have directed at WWE have been due to the lack of identity among its wrestlers. Much of that blame falls on the entrance themes, which many fans feel are empty, generic, and have noticeably declined in quality since 2019. That year, WWE stopped working with CFO$, and from that moment on, the group Def Rebel took over composing and producing the company’s entrance music.

However, this era may be coming to an end very soon, as, according to Bodyslam.net, the team is currently on its final contract with WWE. Although the duration of the deal is unknown, based on recent developments related to the company’s music direction, it can be inferred that WWE is unlikely to renew Def Rebel’s contract.

In recent months, dissatisfaction with Def Rebel’s work hasn’t been limited to the fans. A few months ago, it was reported that several WWE Superstars were unhappy with the situation, and last Friday it was revealed that some talents requested to return to their old entrance themes. This was evident over the weekend: Shinsuke Nakamura brought back his original theme on Friday, as did The Street Profits and Kairi Sane.

A new era on the horizon?

With Def Rebel’s departure, WWE could be opening the door to a very interesting new musical era. A few months ago, it was reported that WWE planned to refresh its entrance themes, moving away from the band’s work. Names like rapper Metro Boomin have been mentioned as potential contributors to future themes, and although there hasn’t yet been a full-scale overhaul, some recent entrance themes — such as those for Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer — were not produced by the contracted group.

If Def Rebel’s contract ultimately isn’t renewed, fans would witness a new musical era within WWE, something they’ve been asking for for quite some time. Although the group can take credit for creating some entrance themes that are now considered iconic (like those of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Iyo Sky), the reality is that many Superstars saw their personal music drop significantly in quality.
