Austin Theory was back in the news last week when Dave Meltzer, a journalist from Wrestling Observer, indicated in his weekly newsletter that the wrestler would be one of the 5 members of the heel team in the classic tag team match at Survivor Series.
The report stated that in the men's match, the team formed by CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, and Jey Uso, along with a fifth member yet to be confirmed, with Jimmy Uso and LA Knight as the main candidates, would face a group led by Seth Rollins, accompanied by Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Brock Lesnar, and Austin Theory.
Initially, it seemed like incorrect information from the Observer, a highly criticized media outlet in recent years, but Sean Ross Sapp, a journalist from Fightful, has stated on his Patreon pay channel that it was a very viable option that WWE was considering and had on the table.
Many were surprised when Dave Meltzer reported that Austin Theory was planned for Survivor Series WarGames. When I asked internally, I was told that it was a completely possible option.
"He has been out of action for the last three months and they quickly moved on to Grayson Waller," Sapp continued to explain. "Theory has not wrestled in a match on Raw in five months and has only had five televised matches on Raw/Smackdown this year. He has been recovering from an injury, but now, with Seth Rollins' injury, I imagine all those plans are literally up in the air."
Austin Theory joined the WWE main roster as Vince McMahon's protege, but his aura faded, especially with the arrival of the new regime. In his recent appearances, he had been working alongside Grayson Waller, and many believed that Theory needed to change his course in the company if he didn't want to be fired.
It is unknown if his inclusion was linked to The Vision, as many fans interpreted it that way, and some even predicted he would be part of Crown Jewel. However, he did not appear, and now, with Seth Rollins' injury, his return plan may have vanished, at least for the time being.
