IYO SKY has become one of the most prominent and beloved female superstars in the current WWE roster. After a successful career in STARDOM, "The Genius of Sky" embarked on a journey in the biggest wrestling company, where she has captured half a dozen championships, as well as setting important records, such as being the first Japanese woman to win at WrestleMania.

However, her wrestling career didn't start off on the right foot. SKY revealed in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet that her first match was actually terrible. So much so, that she even thought wrestling wasn't for her. Fortunately, she didn't give up and was able to showcase the talent she had inside.

"My debut match was horrible, everything went wrong. I had no idea about wrestling. I was 16 years old, a high school student. At that moment, I felt very embarrassed because it was a very bad debut. Maybe there were only 30 people in the audience, but I felt very embarrassed nonetheless. I thought about quitting," SKY said.

"But at the same time, I was frustrated. I thought: 'I have to get stronger. I have to improve to change their opinion'. Because those 30 people thought Io Shirai was a bad wrestler. I wanted to change that, I wanted them to think: 'Io Shirai is not a bad wrestler'. That's why, even though I wanted to give up, I decided to keep going. Keep going, keep going, until they changed their opinion. And then, three years later, I was good enough to really wrestle," she stated.

Currently, SKY is in a heated rivalry with her former teammates Asuka and Kairi Sane. This story could lead to a WarGames Match, a very special match for the Japanese wrestler. Since WWE brought back this unique team battle in 2019, IYO has participated in all editions. So far, the company has not announced the participants for this year's women's WarGames, which will take place at Survivor Series on November 29.
