In October 2024, WWE officially launched its ID project. It was a new Independent Development program through which the company would partner with select training schools and independent wrestlers to establish a potential path to WWE. At that time, talents like Cappuccino Jones, Jack Cartwheel, and Sean Legacy joined the project, taking their first steps in the company with their sights set on the NXT roster.
Just one year later, the company has carried out a personnel cut, which is part of the "natural progression of the talent rotation process in development." Therefore, the vacancies that have been left will be filled with new talents. This was confirmed by WWE itself in a recent statement.
"WWE will provide the most prominent independent wrestling schools in the United States with the official designation 'WWE ID', with the aim of guiding new apprentices and existing talents in these selected institutions, offering them enhanced development opportunities.
WWE ID will identify the top prospects of independent wrestling with the official designation of 'WWE ID Prospect' and support their development process. WWE ID will allow fans to follow the path of these young promises from the independent circuit through exclusive behind-the-scenes content, as well as highlights and featured matches on WWE's social platforms," the company wrote.
In addition to their participation in WWE Evolve, WWE ID talents regularly compete in select promotions in the independent scene. In fact, the WWE ID championships are defended in indie shows, with the male title currently held by Cappuccino Jones. Meanwhile, the women's championship is vacant after Kylie Rae (who was part of the list of releases) had to step away from action after announcing her pregnancy.
