Seth Rollins will finally go under the knife, and the news is not encouraging at all. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion will have to undergo shoulder surgery that will keep him out of action for several months, possibly until after WrestleMania. The information was confirmed by Wrestling Observer Radio, where Dave Meltzer detailed that the injury is more serious than initially expected.
During the October 16 edition, Meltzer pointed out that Rollins "will need surgery as soon as possible," confirming that the recovery will be lengthy. The news comes after days of speculation, following Rollins appearing with his arm in a sling and being pulled from the upcoming WWE tour in Japan, where he was scheduled to face CM Punk and share the card with Jey Uso and Shinsuke Nakamura.
For now, WWE has not made an official decision regarding the future of the championship or the originally planned match between Rollins and Punk on November 1 at Saturday Night's Main Event. Meltzer hinted that "probably the announcement will be made on the next RAW," where the company could reveal its new plans for the world title.
The options are multiple: from a tournament to crown a new champion, to the possibility of Bron Breakker or CM Punk taking a central role in the new creative direction. However, Meltzer highlighted that the company already had a tournament planned for the story of Gunther and John Cena, which could lead WWE to seek a different alternative to avoid saturating the programming with similar competitions.
The concern goes beyond the short term. Rollins was one of the key pieces in WrestleMania's plans, with rumors linking him to major matches against CM Punk and/or Roman Reigns. With his absence confirmed, WWE's creative team will have to readjust the entire main scene for the upcoming months.
