Vince McMahon has received good news today. The former chairman of WWE had a hearing with a judge in Stamford, Connecticut regarding charges of reckless driving and following too closely, stemming from the car accident he was involved in on July 24th in Westport. Charges that could be dropped if McMahon meets a series of criteria.
The former WWE chairman appeared in court dressed in a navy blue suit and white shirt, as seen in videos circulating on the internet throughout the day. However, he did not speak at any point during the proceedings, letting his lawyer handle everything.
The judge authorized McMahon's inclusion in a pre-trial accelerated rehabilitation program. According to reports, this ensures that if McMahon meets the established conditions, his case will be officially dismissed in October 2026. The criteria include maintaining a clean record over the next year, donating $1,000 to a charitable organization, and complying with all traffic laws. Fulfilling all these requirements will provide him a path for the charges to be expunged from his record without a conviction.
After the hearing, McMahon's lawyer, Mark Sherman, spoke with TMZ Sports to express his satisfaction with what he considers a wise decision by the judge. "It was good news. Not every car accident is a crime, and the judge agreed that this dismissal was deserved, and we are grateful for it," Sherman said.
The charges against McMahon stem from a traffic accident on July 24th, when the Bentley driven by the former WWE chairman collided with the vehicle of a woman named Barbara Doran, which ended up off the road. At that time, McMahon was being pursued by a police car due to his speeding.
That impact destroyed the front wheels of the Bentley, triggering the airbag deployment, which likely prevented serious injuries to McMahon. On the other hand, Doran suffered some minor bruises, as well as a tremendous scare, but she was still taken to a hospital for a more thorough check-up.
With this case seemingly well on track for his interests, McMahon can focus on the rest of the legal matters he continues to deal with, especially the lawsuit from Janel Grant, a former employee who directly accuses him of sex trafficking, emotional abuse, and sexual assault. A case that has been in the courts for almost two years and still seems far from over.
