WWE celebrated tonight a new edition of Friday Night SmackDown which featured impactful returns and title defenses. Although the main event was canceled after Jacob Fatu was brutally attacked by a mysterious assailant, the chaos did not end, as Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes engaged in an intense fight to close the night.
The main event started with Jacob Fatu's entrance, but even though his music played, the Samoan wrestler did not appear. Immediately, the cameras turned to the backstage, where "The Samoan Werewolf" was found on the floor, immobilized under a steel structure. After being assisted, General Manager Nick Aldis asked Fatu about the attacker, but the Samoan could not respond. At that moment, his opponent for the night, Drew McIntyre, appeared in the ring, requesting to be declared the winner.
The segment quickly escalated when the Undisputed Champion, Cody Rhodes, stormed into the ring, stating that the fans deserved a fight and agreeing to put the championship on the line against McIntyre on the spot. Rhodes showed unusual aggression, starting a brutal exchange of blows that took the action to ringside. The confrontation intensified when a clearly enraged Cody choked McIntyre with his own pocket watch.
After that intense initial battle, the match officially began in the ring. Dodging a Future Shock DDT, Cody Rhodes once again took the fight to ringside and used the Undisputed Championship as a weapon, hitting McIntyre in the head. The referee, witnessing the illegal action, declared the victory by disqualification in favor of Drew McIntyre. Despite the result, Cody did not stop and closed the night by diving with a dive onto Drew and the officials trying to separate them.
