Kurt Angle, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame and Olympic gold medalist in Atlanta 1996, has spoken out about the constant comparisons he receives with Chad Gable, the WWE Raw superstar. Both share roots in amateur wrestling and have built careers in the world of professional wrestling.
In a recent interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, Angle positively assessed Gable's talent and his ability to carve out his own space that, although "quite identical" to his, works to connect with the audience. "I think he's a great wrestler. I'm glad he found his niche. Regardless of whether he imitated my character or someone else's, the kid has incredible talent and would have succeeded in any way," he pointed out.
The former Olympic champion also addressed a common criticism towards Gable: that his height puts him at a disadvantage to be a top figure in WWE. Angle debunked this idea by recalling other great small wrestlers who have reached the pinnacle of the business and are still legends.
The problem is that the office thinks he's too small, but that's not an excuse. Chris Benoit was 1.75 m, Eddie Guerrero 1.72 m, and Rey Mysterio 1.65 m. Someone like Chad can also become a main eventer.
Currently, Chad Gable is away from the rings due to a real injury suffered after a backstage attack. His last televised appearance was in June, when the storyline on television had him written off after Penta's ambush.
For now, Gable's future as an active athlete is on hold, but Kurt Angle's public support suggests that WWE still has significant plans for his rise when he returns from recovery.
