Cody Rhodes has hinted that his final stage in wrestling could be closer than many imagine. During his appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, alongside NBA champion Matt Barnes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion spoke candidly about his future within the company and the difficult balance between his professional and personal life.
“My last contract with WWE, or the next one I sign, will probably be the last. I want to finish my days here. It's the house that shaped me, the one that brought me back and put me in this incredible position. But it's hard to maintain the balance,” confessed Rhodes.
The American Nightmare has had one of the most remarkable trajectories in recent years, going from leaving the company in 2016 to reinventing himself in the independent circuit and in AEW, to returning in 2022 as one of the biggest stars of the new WWE era. His coronation as undisputed champion at WrestleMania XL marked the culmination of a personal story he had pursued throughout his career: continuing the legacy of his father, Dusty Rhodes.
These statements do not necessarily mean an immediate retirement, but they do reflect a more thoughtful mindset in a Cody who seems to want to solidify his legacy in the company he considers his home. At 40 years old, Rhodes is at the peak both creatively and professionally, and he seems determined to maintain that level until the end of his journey.
Last weekend, Rhodes successfully defended the WWE Undisputed Championship against Drew McIntyre. At the moment, his next opponent has not been confirmed, although we may find out soon because Survivor Series is approaching.
