With only four dates left before closing his chapter in WWE, the company is squeezing every appearance of John Cena to the fullest. WWE has once again focused on one of the most iconic rivalries of his career, although with an evident nuance for anyone following current events.
The WWE Vault channel has released a special titled “Story of John Cena vs. Edge | Rivalry history (2002–10)”, reviewing the complete saga between Cena and Edge (Adam Copeland), one of his most historic enemies. Within the farewell tour, it makes perfect sense, but the choice of content and the timing of its release have not gone unnoticed.
During the announcement of the “The Last Time Is Now” tournament, Cena's own narration hinted at the possibility of featuring wrestlers who are currently not part of WWE. A perfect line to generate speculation, except for one detail impossible to ignore: Edge is under contract with AEW and there is no realistic scenario in which he returns to face Cena on his final tour.
Even so, reminiscing about their rivalry is an effective move. It was a golden era that marked an entire generation of fans and is an essential part of both their legacies. WWE wants to close the circle, although that final battle, the one many imagine when watching the video, remains in the realm of nostalgia.
John Cena's next appearance will take place on Monday, November 10th at the TD Garden in Boston, MA, the state where the seventeen-time champion hails from. Cena will talk about the tournament and address his appearance at Survivor Series.
