At the beginning of October, WWE released several talents from their developmental territory as part of an ongoing evaluation process. This way, familiar faces like Stevie Turner or Wes Lee ended their time in the company, while others chose not to renew their contracts once they expired.
Among this latter group was Zayda Steel, who could be making the leap to one of the major leagues. The 22-year-old young wrestler has caught the attention of numerous companies in the business, including All Elite Wrestling, as reported in the latest Fightful update.
"Fightful Select has reported that AEW has recently shown interest in Zayda Steel. Until early October, Zayda Steel had a contract with WWE under their WWE ID agreement. It has been said that there was contact between AEW and Steel at some point in October, but at that time she had not signed, and she had not done so until last week," the outlet wrote.
"According to the terms of the WWE ID contracts, WWE has matching rights if any company wishes to sign a talent with that type of agreement. However, Steel is no longer under that contract, so that clause would not apply. Within WWE, it was commented that when the time came to renew the contract, Zayda decided not to do so, in line with what she herself said at the time," Fightful wrote.
"While under the WWE ID contract, she participated in nine EVOLVE matches. She won an individual match and a tag team match. She also competed in matches related to WWE ID in GCW and APAC, without achieving victories in those appearances. Zayda Steel has previously worked for Marigold and has fought in several MLW events, ending her participation with a loss in a match for the MLW Women's World Championship," the report concluded.
Despite her short career as a professional wrestler (just four years), Steel has an extensive resume, having worked for a multitude of promotions. Her time in EVOLVE was quite notable, being introduced as one of the women with the most promising future in the brand.
However, the wrestler made the decision to take another path to continue growing as a wrestler. One that seems to be leading her towards AEW, where she would join one of the most complete women's rosters in the business. Currently, Steel is a free agent, with no contractual ties to WWE that could prevent her from signing with Tony Khan's company.
