The suspension of Drew McIntyre on the last Smackdown show has sparked a lot of discussion. After attacking the referee in his title match against Cody Rhodes on Saturday Night's Main Event, as well as the champion himself, the General Manager of the blue brand, Nick Aldis, appeared to inform him that he was suspended indefinitely from both his salary and his job. Quickly, many media outlets began to speculate whether this decision to remove McIntyre from the programming could be motivated by a temporary absence of the Scottish wrestler.

This was confirmed by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer stated that the 3-time World Champion would be absent from programming for a few weeks to film a movie. While this could make sense (Cody Rhodes himself, in the midst of a rivalry with McIntyre, "injured" himself on television to go film the Street Fighter movie).

However, just a few minutes ago, PWInsider has stated that this is not true, and McIntyre's absence is solely due to a creative strategy in the midst of his rivalry with the American Nightmare. With this, it is likely that the Scottish Psychopath will take a few weeks away from the ring, leaving room for Rhodes to develop his faction rivalry leading up to the WarGames match at Survivor Series.

Given how tumultuous the past few months have been for Drew McIntyre, suffering two painful defeats against Cody Rhodes in his quest for the WWE title, this period of rest can serve to give the wrestler a break, rebuild his character, and eventually return before a Rhodes who also has his ups and downs with other wrestlers.
