John Cena receives a challenge from a historic opponent after his coronation on Raw

John Cena has once again written his name in WWE history. In the November 10 episode of Monday Night Raw, the leader of the Cenation defeated Dominik Mysterio to capture the Intercontinental Championship, thus completing the coveted Grand Slam of his career.

However, the celebration didn't last long before an old rival made an appearance. The Miz, former champion and Cena's rival, took to his social media to send a direct message to the new monarch. "This farewell tournament just got VERY interesting, right?”, wrote The Miz alongside a video of himself facing Cena in 2017.

Prior to that post, the A-Lister had already shared an image of himself as Intercontinental champion, recalling his iconic promo on Talking Smack in 2016, considered one of the most memorable of his career. With that gesture, he made it clear that his ambition to regain the gold remains intact.

The Miz is one of the participants in the Last Time is Now tournament, where it will be decided who will be John Cena's final opponent. There are rumors that The Miz will lose this Friday on Friday Night SmackDown against Jey Uso, and will then appear on Raw to challenge John Cena to a title match for the Championship. It would be The Miz's last chance, as John Cena's next dates in WWE will be Survivor Series and his final appearance on December 13. It is not ruled out that The Miz wins the tournament, although it seems that spot is destined for Gunther.

The history between the two is extensive. Miz and Cena began their rivalry in 2009, faced each other for the WWE Championship in 2011, and crossed paths again at WrestleMania 33, where Cena and Nikki Bella defeated The Miz and Maryse. Now, with Cena facing his final appearances in WWE, all signs point to a possible new chapter between them.
