Bad news for Sheamus, who will not be able to be John Cena's last opponent. This has just been confirmed by WWE through a statement on their social media. "The Celtic Warrior" has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury. At the moment, the severity of the injury is unknown, but it will not allow him to continue competing in the tournament The Last Time is Now.

The company has also confirmed that tonight they will offer more details on the case in the episode of SmackDown, where it is expected that a replacement will be announced. It is worth remembering that Sheamus defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the first round of the tournament, so it is possible that the Japanese wrestler will fill the gap left by the Irishman.

The Last Time is Now tournament pits 16 wrestlers from SmackDown, Raw, NXT, and TNA Wrestling with a single goal: to be John Cena's opponent in his retirement match on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event. The tournament has featured pleasant surprises such as the occasional returns of Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler, as well as the return to action of Gunther.

Sheamus was one of the most plausible candidates to face "The Greatest of All Time" in his final match. Both have a long history together. Additionally, Sheamus has been eager to win the Intercontinental Championship for a long time, which would allow him to become a WWE Grand Slam Champion, an achievement that Cena recently accomplished.

Sheamus last competed in the episode of Raw last Monday, where he teamed up with Cena and Rey Mysterio to defeat The Judgment Day (Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh, and Dominik Mysterio) in a tag team match. It is unknown if his injury occurred during that match. We will have to wait for SmackDown to learn more details about this injury.
