Ricochet made history at AEW Full Gear by becoming the first National Champion of the company. A title that, as Tony Khan explained at the time, will be defended in any wrestling promotion and anywhere in the world. In fact, his first title defense will take place at the Ring of Honor PPV Final Battle against Dalton Castle.
Ricochet's talent, combined with the nature of the championship itself, will allow fans to witness defenses in multiple companies. At least that's the idea that Khan continues to maintain and that seems to have resonated with his main partners. This is how the AEW president explained it in a recent appearance on the Battleground Podcast.
"We have a new National Champion, Ricochet, who will defend that title all over the world, and someone whom not only AEW fans respect, I believe, as a great wrestler, but also someone who is a huge name in wrestling and an excellent person to represent AEW both on our television programs and traveling to other promotions. In the United States, companies like Ring of Honor, but also New Japan STRONG, and traveling to Mexico with CMLL, and many other promotions want to have Ricochet. He is a highly sought-after signing right now as National Champion. So, that is very good for us," Khan said.
Khan also shared his intention for the new Women's World Tag Team Championships to be equally defended in any professional wrestling promotion. "Of course. We would defend those AEW Women's World Tag Team Championships in any promotion, and whoever wins this tournament will be a great representative," he said.
