CM Punk, current world champion of WWE, continues to expand his presence in Hollywood. The wrestler has been chosen to be part of the new adaptation of The Bodyguard that Netflix is preparing, based on the novel by Katherine Center published in 2022 and unrelated to the famous film starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.
As Deadline reported, it is a romantic comedy set during the Christmas season, where a professional escort must protect an action star during the holidays. The clash of personalities triggers tension, chemistry, and secrets that complicate what should be a simple job. Punk will play Doghouse, described as "a physically imposing member of the security team, known for his loyalty and sense of humor."
The project is led by Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki. The confirmed cast also includes Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, and Toby Sandeman. The direction is in charge of Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, with a script by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith.
Punk, represented by Paradigm Talent Agency, combines this project with a busy schedule both inside and outside the ring. He currently appears in theaters as one of the Zebros in Zootopia 2 and recently starred in the series Revival on Syfy. He will also premiere the independent horror thriller Night Patrol in January, where he shares the screen with Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, and Freddie Gibbs.
While continuing his reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, the Chicago native continues to solidify his acting career. Last Monday, on Monday Night Raw, it was confirmed that CM Punk will defend the title against Bron Breakker on January 6.
