Tonight WWE celebrates a new Saturday Night's Main Event show, this time from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. The show will be broadcast on Peacock in the United States, and on YouTube in LATAM and Spain. In total, the company has confirmed four matches, highlighting the last match of John Cena as a professional wrestler.
Joe Tessitore, Big E, and Wade Barrett welcome us to the first hour of the Countdown Show.
Byron Saxton interviews Chelsea Green backstage. Saxton asks the Canadian for the best advice she has received from John Cena. Green reminds us that she is a double champion before revealing Cena's advice: "There is nothing that can replace hard work". Chelsea quickly leaves to end this brief interview.
Jackie Redmond interviews Shawn Michaels backstage. Redmond asks HBK what impact John Cena will have on the next generation of wrestlers. Michaels believes it will be his work ethic. Shawn recalls that he has been in this business for over four decades, and has never known anyone who works harder than "The Greatest of All Time". And if that is the legacy he will leave to the new generation, he hopes it will be glorious. Michaels also points out that John has behaved fantastically with NXT. Shawn acknowledges that Cena, like any other talent, has his detractors, but he is not one of them. Michaels truly believes that John is a genuinely good guy, something very rare to see in this business. "Sure, there will be people with a different opinion than mine, but John Cena has been very good to me, and therefore I consider him a good man", he says. Redmond thanks him for his time to end the interview.
Jesse Ventura joins the Countdown Show table.
Jackie Redmond interviews Oba Femi backstage. Oba is aware that tonight he will compete on the biggest stage of his career. Nothing less than on the show where John Cena will end his career. "It is symbolic that John's end is my beginning", says "The Ruler". As for his opponent tonight, Cody Rhodes, he still believes that the future is far away. But it is not. "I disagree, because I believe the future has already arrived. And as I said last night in the spirit of Loyalty, Hustle, and Respect, Cody, your time is up. Now it's my time", says Oba to end the interview.
Sam Roberts and Megan Morant interview Je'Von Evans and Leon Slater backstage. Slater acknowledges that he woke up nervous this morning, but also excited for tonight, because he is eager to show the WWE Universe what he and Evans are capable of. Je'Von jokes, pointing out that he is still nervous. But putting that aside, he feels grateful for this opportunity. Evans knows that tonight they will face AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, who are currently at the top of the tag team division. That is why this is the perfect opportunity to show that they can play with the "big dogs".
We see a small excerpt from the interview John Cena gave to Tom Rinaldi on his retirement tour.
Sami Zayn joins the Countdown Show table to replace Wade Barrett.
Triple H joins the table to share some words about John Cena, from his work inside and outside the ring to his special relationship with the fans, describing him as "a wonderful human being".
Byron Saxton interviews Trish Stratus backstage. The WWE Hall of Famer describes John Cena as a unique superstar in his generation, and does not believe we will see anything like him again. Trish also describes him as a master of comebacks. Stratus finishes by pointing out that it is the decisions John has made in his career that have ensured his legacy and the longevity of the business. That is why his impact on wrestling is so powerful. Saxton thanks Stratus for her time before ending the interview.
Sam Roberts and Megan Morant interview Sol Ruca backstage. After being chosen by John Cena to be part of the Iron Survivor Challenge and now to fight against Bayley in Saturday Night's Main Event, Sol believes it is time to prove that she belongs in the big leagues. Ruca does not want to think about what her match tonight might mean for her future and legacy. She just wants to live in the moment and focus on her fight against "The Role Model".
R-Truth sings a special song about John Cena with the fans before joining the Countdown Show table.
Jackie Redmond interviews the cameraman Stu, who claims to be happy for John Cena.
Stephanie McMahon makes her entrance to join Jackie Redmond. Stephanie considers herself privileged to be here tonight and to have had the opportunity to firsthand witness John Cena's career, from his debut to his last match. Stephanie describes Cena not only as a true hero in the ring, but also outside of it. Being the person who has granted the most wishes for the Make-A-Wish foundation is proof of that. With that said, Stephanie introduces a special video about the impact that "The Greatest of All Time" has had on hundreds of children in this program.
Sam Roberts and Megan Morant interview The Miz backstage. The Miz is still furious for not being part of tonight's show, especially after being a main protagonist in this era, that of John Cena, which ends tonight. Instead, he is relegated to drinking cappuccinos decorated with faces of people. However, when he asked if he could have one with his face, he was told they only had those of talents who will compete in tonight's show for being the most valuable. "I hate you!" exclaims an irate The Miz before leaving.
Byron Saxton interviews CM Punk backstage. CM Punk confesses he doesn't know how to put into words everything he feels about tonight. But if he has to choose one word, it would be "satisfied", because John Cena has been able to retire on his own terms. In this way, fans have been able to say goodbye to "The Greatest of All Time". CM Punk assures that Cena is a man of his word, so tonight will be the last time we see him compete in a ring. CM Punk wants to personally thank him for the legacy he will leave behind, adding that we will never be able to pay him fairly for everything he has brought to the industry. CM Punk is proud to have been part of John Cena's history and of the fans who are here tonight in Washington to bid him farewell.
Lilian Garcia sings the national anthem of the United States in the final minutes of the Countdown Show.
