In recent months, many fans have been clamoring for some NXT talent to be promoted to give a fresh look to the programming, especially in certain areas of SmackDown, due to the weakness of the WWE roster. Dave Meltzer, a journalist from the Wrestling Observer, has reported some progress on this matter.
According to the journalist, three NXT talents have caught the attention of company officials and figures of authority. These three names are Oba Femi, Joe Hendry, and Sol Ruca, who participated in John Cena's retirement show. Their strong performances in this important showcase were well received by the audience of the main shows.
This positive reception, according to Meltzer, has translated into a significant level of trust from the creative team ("Meltzer sees Oba Femi as a big star," said Meltzer), indicating that their promotions to the main roster could be imminent. "The key was that when they connected with the 'real audience,' with the large audience that came to see John Cena, everything accelerated. They were all going to be promoted anyway, but there is a perception that 'they are big fish in a small pond.' When you see them in the big pond and they are really over, that changed many opinions very quickly," concluded the journalist.
Before Hendry, Femi, and Ruca make it to the main roster (along with other potential assets like Ricky Saints, Jordynne Grace, or Ethan Page), the two closest promotions that could happen are for The Young OG, Je'Von Evans, and Trick Williams, a two-time NXT champion. On one hand, Evans has already had impressive performances on Raw, SmackDown, and special events, leading Michael Cole to comment on the last episode of Monday Night Raw that he is a free agent who will soon sign with one of the two main brands.
On the other hand, Trick Williams has had little opportunity to shine on the main roster, but recent information indicates that Williams was internally listed within the SmackDown roster. Presumably, he will arrive to bolster a midcard division that began to thrive a few months ago.
